On 22nd October the Museum celebrated the 45th Anniversary of volunteering and the launch of the ‘Past to Present’ project.
The day was started with a ‘Meet and Greet’ and was then followed by speeches from a number of guest Speakers.
The proceedings were presided over by Mr David Stokes (Chairman of South Wales Miners’ Museum) and the speakers were Mr Michael Sheen OBE, Dr Hywel Francis (President of South Wales Miners’ Museum), Mr Richard Bellamy (Head of HLF Wales), Dr Julian Tudor Hart, Mr Eamonn Scullion (Heritage Officer) and Ms Charlene Rodger ( Museum Volunteer).
The Mayor and Consort of Neath Port Talbot County Borough, Councillor Mrs. Sheila Parry and Mr. Glen Clarke were also present at the event.
Michael Sheen OBE and the museum’s funders were given a tour by volunteers. during which they discussed the history of coal mining in the Afan and Llynfi valleys.
The event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended and the museum would like to extend its thanks to the museum’s sponsors, Coalfields, Heritage Lottery Fund, CVS and the Rural Development Program and everyone who made the day such a success.
