Past to Present @ South Wales Miners Museum

Remembrances: Collecting oral/video histories of mining in South Wales

South Wales Miners' Museum is currently receiving funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Tower Colliery Regeneration and the LEADER programme to support our Past to Present project.

The project has four main aims:

  1. The process and catalogue our 1500 object collection

  2. Research all objects and produce professional quality interpretation

  3. Upgrade the exhibition space and materials indie the museum

  4. Build and implement an outdoor digital heritage walk set within the Afan Forest Park

We have formed three volunteer teams; Collections, Research and Education.  If you are interested in joining in and developing your research or conservation skills then you can contact us here.

The LEADER programme is funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

In partnership with Gwirvol and the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action, we have secured funding for a volunteer led project to engage with local schools and community groups.  The aim is to work with these groups to talk to local people and capture their memories of mining and their communities before the end of the industry.
